Mill Trail Maria Luggau
Mill Trail Maria Luggau
The Valley of the Hundred Mills ... the Lesachtal Valley still carries this name today. In its heyday, around 200 mills were clacking along the babbling brook. The farmers used the power of the water not only for grinding grains but also for operating their ploughs and lifts, threshing machines and sawmills. One mill after another disappeared due to the increasing industrialisation.
The Mill Trails is a short circular route, starting at the Bäckwirt and leading to the five old watermills with Mill Museum, grinding of grains, the spinning room, the waterworks with cable lift and the short film "The Valley of the Hundred Mills". The way back leads through the hamlet of Oberluggau, home of Helena – the church’s founder, and the Servite monastery into the pilgrimage basilica and ends at the farm shop.
Guided tours: Fridays, 10 am throughout the summer (until Sept.). Meeting point: Farm Shop in Maria Luggau
