FROM THE LESACHTAL VALLEY TO THE LONG-DISTANCE TRAIL
The Carnic High Route (KHW 403) is also called the Trail of Peace of the Carnic Alps - and is one of the most beautiful long-distance hiking trails in Austria, if not in Europe. Over a total of 150 kilometres, it runs along the ridge and the state border between Austria and Italy - from
Sillian in East Tyrol to Thörl-Maglern in the lower Carinthian Gailtal Valley. The high route can be completed in eight to eleven daily stages. The two sections to the west and east of the Plöcken Pass are often taken separately.
Summit tours, geotrails or positions from the First World War: the Carnic High Route does not only fascinate long-distance hikers. Climbers, geologists and nature lovers also enjoy the special features along the trail. The highlights certainly include the cheese dairy alpine pastures on the Carnic Milky Way and the Pal Piccolo with the open-air museum.
