LESACHTAL – THE VALLEY OF 100 MILLS
Did you know that in its heyday, the Lesachtal Valley was home to some 200 mills rattling along the whooshing stream? No wonder that Europe's most natural valley is still known as the valley of a hundred mills. Today, the Mill Association operates five fully functional mills. The millers use the power of the water to grind grain, just as they did back in the days.
The Maria Luggau Mill Trail is a short walk from the Bäckwirt to the five old water mills, including the Mill Museum. Past the hamlet of Oberluggau, the Servite monastery and the pilgrimage basilica, the trail finally leads to the farmers’ shop. In summer, it is the meeting point for guided tours that once a week provide valuable insights into farming life of yesteryear.
